Officers nab Facebook drug peddlers

Facebook

If you are going to sell illegal narcotics, advertising it on Facebook is probably not the smartest move, because you never know who may be checking on your profile.

Three people learned that lesson the hard way Tuesday, after they were arrested by local law enforcement.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said a special operation was conducted by the Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit Tuesday afternoon, which resulted in the arrest of three individuals who were each charged with delivery of a dangerous drug.

The Sheriff’s SWAT unit along with the Narcotics Division of the Greenville Police Department made the arrests in the 5000 block of Wesley Street in Greenville at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“We were alerted that these individuals were advertising on Facebook that they had some illegal narcotics to sell,” Meeks said.

“An undercover deputy with the Sheriff’s Office made contact with the individuals and the buy was set up. Sure enough, the three Facebook users showed up to sell these narcotics to us at the given time and location. I am not going to comment on their mentality, but I don’t believe that they will be using social media again to sell their wares,” the sheriff added.

The names of the suspects were not immediately released, pending their arraignments on the charges.
