Operation 'Cold Spell' nets 23 defendants in jail

23 defendants have been taken into custody and are facing charges ranging from Manufacturing and Delivery of Marijuana, Manufacturing and Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Fire Arm Smuggling.

On Thursday, Mar. 6. shortly before 6 a.m., through a combined law enforcement effort, officers from the Commerce Police Department, Texas A&M Police Department, Hunt and Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Sulphur Springs Police Department hit the streets in search of individuals wanted on charges of Manufacturing and Delivering of Narcotics and two for Fire Arm Smuggling.

Child Protective Services Special Agents were also present during the round up and four children were removed from two different locations with children ranging in ages from two year old to seven year old. 

This effort to curtail the sales of narcotics was the culmination of a four month operation in which narcotics were bought from individuals at different locations throughout the city of Commerce.  

According to Lieutenant Michael Pehl of the Commerce Police Department, 23 individuals have been taken into custody.   Five individuals remain at large and efforts will continue to get these people into custody.   

All these individuals will be transported to Hunt County where they will be arraigned on their charges. 

In addition to those arrested through this operation, four individuals that were found at locations where warrants were executed were also taken into custody on local Commerce Police Department warrants and have been booked in to await arraignment on their charges.
