A Paris man has been charged with murder after authorities discovered a dead man inside a shop behind his house, according to The Paris News. David Scott Powell, 33, was arrested early March 16.

The Lamar Country Sheriff’s Office received a call around 11 a.m. March 16 reporting a dead body in the 6500 block of Hwy. 82 West.

“He was deceased when we arrived,” Sheriff Scott Cass said of the 54-year-old man found with severe head trauma on the floor of a shop. The man was pronounced dead and sent off for autopsy.

“Investigators are awaiting autopsy findings to determine cause of death,” Cass said, also stating that Sheriff’s detectives along with Texas Ranger Stacy McNeal are working the scene as a homicide.

Detectives interviewed a man who lived on the same land as the shop where the body was discovered. That interview led them to seek a warrant for Powell, officials said.

Powell is being kept in the Lamar County jail and is awaiting arraignment.
