'Commerce Idol' winners announced

For the past nine years, the Commerce Rotary Club has been bringing the residents of Commerce and surrounding areas Commerce Idol. The program brings together different talents from different ages and puts them into a two hour show that is guaranteed to make you laugh, and cheer!

On Saturday March 22, hundreds of people filled the Commerce High School auditorium to cheer on their classmates, friends, and parents. The winners of the event took home a cash prize and a gorgeous trophy.

Here are the winners for this year's Commerce Idol

3rd-5th Grade ($75 prize for first place)

First Place - Alyssa and Elajah Fugitt  (singing)

Second Place - Akyah Gearhart (Tumbling)

6th-8th Grade ($100 prize for first place)

First Place - Joseph Jang (playing marimba)

Second Place - Conner Wilson (hip-hop dancing)

9th-12th Grade ($200 prize for first place)

First Place - Tabatha Wooten (tap dancing)

Second Place - Benjamin Montgomery (Guitar/Harmonica/Singing)

18 and up ($300 prize for first place)

First Place - Dani Roberts (Piano/Singing)

Second Place - Elijah Dmitrievsky (Piano)

All of the first place winners will be performing at the 29th annual Bois d' Arc Bash in September.

If you would like to participate in next year's 10th Anniversary edition of Commerce Idol, auditions will be held again next spring.

Daniel was born and raised in Commerce, TX, and has been a life-long listener of 88.9 KETR. After listening to ‘The Art of Sound’ with Mark Chapman as a child, he enjoyed the thought of being able to broadcast across NE Texas. He is now a Radio/Television student at Texas A&M University-Commerce and hopes to continue his work in radio after he graduates. He has been heard in the past as the host of ‘All Things Considered’, ‘Movie Picks with Alice Reese’ and ‘The Morning Bell’.
