Dozens arrested in warrant roundup

Greenville Police Department

Well, they can’t say they weren’t warned.

After issuing repeated notices that a warrant roundup was approaching, and even offering individuals a chance to clear up their fines and court costs at a discount, officers with the Greenville Police Department have made dozens of arrests of suspects wanted on outstanding warrants.

Officers made 47 arrests between Friday morning and Sunday night, with 44 of the arrests involving individuals on outstanding warrants.

The police department also arrested 19 people on outstanding warrants Thursday.

The roundup was reported to still be underway as of Monday afternoon.

Prior to the roundup, the Greenville Municipal Court offered a three-week discount period to give individuals an opportunity to satisfy their legal obligations at a lower cost. A total of 194 individuals took advantage of the offer, clearing 331 warrants and resulting in the collection of more than $66,000 in fines.

Those interested in taking care of their outstanding warrants, thereby avoiding arrest and extra fines, can contact the Greenville Municipal Court, located at 3000 Lee St. in Public Safety Building by calling 903-457-3129, although all arrangements, except for full payment, must be made in person.
