Investigation into shooting death continues

Greenville Herald-Banner

The suspect charged with murder in connection with a late Friday night shooting death in south Hunt County has been released on bond.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said Monday the investigation is continuing into the death of Terry R. Cale, 54, of Wills Point.

Carl Allen Welch was taken into custody following Cale’s death, was charged with one count of murder and was released on $75,000 bond.

Cale was reported to have been shot multiple times outside of a residence on Archer Lane at approximately 11 p.m. Friday.

Meeks has said the shooting appeared to have been the result of a domestic disturbance earlier in the evening.

Monday Meeks said the case was still under investigation by the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Texas Rangers.

“It is quite complicated and there are issues that I simply cannot release at this time,” Meeks said. “We still have not received the autopsy report back from the Medical Examiner’s Office.”

Deputies arrived at the location Friday night to find Cale deceased in the front yard of the residence. Upon further investigation, deputies reportedly discovered a disturbance had taken place about one hour earlier between Cale and Welch at a residence on Nob Hill west of Quinlan.
