Couple jailed for drugs and warrants
Last Thursday a call regarding a disorderly couple in the Dollar General parking lot led local authorities to another arrest for drugs and parole warrants.
According to the Delta County Sheriff’s office reports Crystal Melendez from Arlington, Texas was charged with Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Marijuana and Fraudulent Possession of Identifying Information. Justin Tatum from Paris, Texas was charged with Failure to Identify, Possession of Marijuana and additionally being held on Parole Violation warrants. Charges are currently pending receipt of warrants related to the stolen purse from the Lewisville Police Department.
“We prefer that criminals who reside outside Delta County stay out of Delta County but if they choose to come here we have a place they can stay, the Delta County jail,” said Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith.
Following the call on Sept. 18, Delta County Deputy Rocky Villarreal discovered the two suspects in their vehicle in the parking lot appearing to be intoxicated. The report states during questioning the female who appeared very intoxicated was extremely belligerent and uncooperative. Upon attempting to take her into custody she began to flee and had to be physically restrained.
During the inventory of the vehicle a small amount of marijuana was discovered and a parolee ankle bracelet that had been cut for removal was found. Additionally a purse containing the driver’s license, credit card and other identifiers and personal property of a Lewisville, Texas resident was discovered in the vehicle. Through contact with the owner of the purse the owner reported the purse was stolen in Lewisville, Texas and reported to the Lewisville Police Department. A follow-up investigation revealed that violation of probation warrants were outstanding on Tatum.
