Local business and government leaders will be traveling to Austin next week, to make their feelings known to state lawmakers.

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee has organized the biennial Hunt County Days trip for March 3-4. The Chamber’s Susan Spoonemore said the response to the event has been encouraging.

“We have more people signed up than we did two years ago,” Spoonemore said.

In 2013, about 30 people made the journey south.

“Right now we have more than 40 going,” Spoonemore noted.

The Chamber will be taking reservations for the excursion through Friday, although those signing up at the last minute are not guaranteed a room at the Chamber’s hotel.

Long-term incumbent State Rep. Dan Flynn (R-Van) is representing Hunt County alongside first time State Sen. Bob Hall (R-Canton) during the 84th Texas Legislature.

“We have been in touch with both of their offices,” Spoonemore said, adding both legislators plan to attend a special breakfast reception in their honor on March 4.

On the first day, the group will attend meetings on education with Dr. Pamela Anglin from Paris Junior College; economic development and tourism with Greenville Board of Development Executive Director Greg Sims; transportation with Paul Voss with the Commerce Chamber of Commerce and John Barton with TxDOT; and water with Clay Hodges from the Cash Special Utility District and Bech Bruun, the Commissioner of the Texas Water Development Board.

The day will also include official photos with Flynn and Hall and a dinner.

March 4 will also involve Hunt County Days participants delivering copies of the Governmental Affairs Committee’s position statements to state legislators, in the process receiving an opportunity to meet one-on-one with the lawmakers.
