Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith reported the Jail was at maximum capacity with an average of 14 inmates during Commissioners Court on Monday.
The recent weather and staffing have created a late start to the inmate work program. Sheriff Smith said Tanner Steward will be an eligible commissioned peace officer who will be involved in the program. The work began on Wednesday for the City of Cooper, with Precinct 1 will follow next week. Inmates were seen on the sunny afternoon painting the youth baseball fields.
Sheriff Smith is positive this program will benefit all of Delta County.
