Chiggerfest is 100 days away.
Cooper Review

The countdown has begun to the Delta County Chamber of Commerce’s annual Chiggerfest event to be held on Saturday, Oct. 17. The Delta County Chamber of Commerce has 100 days to turn this event around and make it as great as it has been in previous years.

New Chamber Directors are bringing new creative thinking to Delta County.

“Our purpose is for the betterment of all of Delta County and its businesses,” said Chamber President Cheryl Cash, on the motto hoping to involve the other communities into the events.

“Chiggerfest needs to have change,” said Co-Chiggerfest Chamber Director Nikki Mullens. “These changes need to be soon to get the word out to the public.

The Chamber agreed Monday night in a lengthy, productive meeting to offer the Chigger coloring contest again, offer a Chiggerfest scholarship to a local student for volunteering at event, the Chamber will team up with the Delta Roping Club to offer the Chiggerfest Championship Bullriding event at 7 p.m. that same day, this will include a funny man (aka Rodeo Clown) visiting the Square from 2-3 p.m. for autographs and photos. These were just some of the additions discussed for the day. Training needs to start for runners as the Chiggerfest 5K and 2 mile walk are also on the books for that morning. The Chamber plans to host many vendors, health fair and Chigger pageant. Mullens along with Co-Chiggerfest Chamber Director Terri Reed plan more fun and entertaining kids zone attractions. Chiggerfest booths are $50 for food vendors, $30 for others with $5 extra for electricity and $5 for water.

What are your favorite Chiggerfest memories? What would draw you back to the community? Tell us what you enjoyed about the event in the 20 plus year history. Send your thoughts to the Cooper Review at P.O. Box 430, Cooper, Texas 75432 or e-mail us at croller@cooperreview.com.

The Chamber meets the first Monday night of the month at 5:15 p.m. in the meeting room on the West Side of the Square in Cooper. Feel free to call 903-395-4314.
