Tricks o' Treats: Halloween events exceed expectations

Three Rusty Nails Church sponsored a very popular Fall Festival on Halloween Saturday following the Trunk o’ Treat on the Square in Cooper.

“We want to make sure to thank all of our local business, Delta County Sheriff’s officers and volunteer fire department for all of their support directing traffic and providing parking spaces for the event,” said Three Rusty Nails Church Pastor Kaleb Wright. “We had over 1,700 people attended the event. This might have been the first traffic jam Cooper has seen.”

The free Hip Hop Amusement carnival from Gilmer, Texas was provided by local businesses.

“I believe God is showing us something much bigger than this great event. This vision of a community united together having fun and fellowshipping together was planted four years ago in our church,” said Pastor Wright. “We truly believe it is our purpose to bring people from all aspects together. Seeing each other for which we truly are, children of God! God has truly blessed our vision and this year’s event was simply amazing. It is so good to see the people of Cooper and the surrounding towns [like Sulphur Springs, Commerce and Paris] together laughing and having fun in the House of the Lord.  It was such a blessing to have the support from many of our local businesses partnering with us to help bring this event to our community. I truly believe God is trying to show us something bigger. If we will just set our differences aside, trust in Him with all things; believe in our town and the people of our town as much as He does, God will grow this town in ways beyond our foreseeable understanding.”

The Delta County Chamber of Commerce also hosted their annual Trunk ’o Treat on the Square in Cooper that evening.

“We had a great Trick or Treat Halloween,” said Delta County Chamber Office Manager Gracie Young. “Lots of fun, trunks, kids and people all ages dressed in all kinds of costumes.”

She reported the Best Trunk Winner was a boat full of zombies and skeletons fishing and one lady had lost her fish.  Winning $50 was Chuck Colvin, Dinah Stowers, Barbara Colvin, Jennie Pickering and Lou Ann Murray group. Ron Spear helped chair this year’s event, and truck judges included Karen Falls, Mindy Hicks and Jennifer Dwyer.

“Crimson River Cowboy Church served a cup full of delicious soup made in the old time wash pot.  Also the Tender Care Home Health had a haunted house,” added Young on the highlights. “Thanks to all who decorated trunks and all the people that filled the Square.”
