It is time to pay tribute to the military in Delta County for the Memorial Day weekend. The American Legion Red Henderson Post 483, of Cooper, Texas, will again be placing flags on several cemeteries in the County on Saturday, May 28 starting at 9 a.m.

Post Commander Gary Thompson said they have 1,100 American Flags to be placed in the Oaklawn Cemetery and surrounding rural Delta County cemeteries.

The program commences at 9 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper, Texas at FM 1529 at the flag pole.

He is looking for several team leaders for the 17 teams to lead each group to their assigned area for the approximately 15 cemeteries which are divided into sections. It usually doesn’t take more than an hour and if more volunteers join their efforts it will take less time. Anyone that has helped in the past please call me at 903-439-8500 so team leaders can be established.

“Those of you that have helped with this honorable act of kindness, I’m sure can testify to the humbling feeling you have received for helping each year. Thanks to each of you for your support,” said Commander Thompson. Volunteers are also needed to take the flags down following the holiday.

Citizens are also reminded of the regular meeting for the Red Henderson Post 483 on Tuesday, May 17 at City Hall in Cooper at 6 p.m.
