Rowlett Nurse Sentenced in Healthcare Scam

A Rowlett nurse will serve 4 years in a federal prison in connection with a health scam centering on $375 million in false claims.

The associated press reported that 56-year-old  Charity Eleda was sentenced today in Dallas on charges of health care fraud, conspiracy to commit health care fraud, and making false statements to secure Medicare benefits. Prosecutors said Eleda helped improperly recruit clients, including homeless people in Dallas.

The case is connected with that of Rockwall Dr. Jacques Roy of Rockwall, who was convicted last year of multiple counts of health care-related fraud, including unnecessary services related to Medicare and Medicaid. He faces up to 105 years in prison.

Eleda must repay nearly $400,000 to Medicare.
