Sulphur Springs Insurance Agent Charged in Alleged Scam

An insurance agent from Sulphur Springs is being accused of stealing clients’ money by not actually providing auto insurance coverage she was selling.

On Wednesday, police charged 40-year-old Kristi Lynn Hooten with theft of property after what the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office says was a lengthy investigation into her business.

Hooten operated Connect Insurance agency, where police say she created fake insurance cards and sold premiums that she kept for herself.

Part of the alleged scam involved using legitimate numbers from policies issued by major insurers.

Hooten faces felony charges, but police say the list of charges could grow.
