Chamber Reveals Christmas Parade Details

It is time to start planning as the annual Christmas Parade and Blue and Red Santa festivities are just a few weeks away.

This year’s Delta County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade theme will be Bing Crosby’s White Christmas. The lighted parade lineup will begin at the City Park on East Dallas Avenue at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, and the route wraps around the Square starting at 6 p.m.

The Chamber is looking for lots of creativity in the divisions of: Grand Marshal Award, President’s Award, Mayor’s Award, Best Church, Most Lighted Award and Family Award. Cash ranging from $200 to $50 is up for grabs. Prizes and banners for display during the parade will be presented just before the start time. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 5 p.m. at the park in order to have time to judge floats at 5:30 p.m.

Receiving the honor of Grand Marshal will be the Chamber’s own beloved office manager of nearly 20 years, Gracie Young.

Santa will be joining the fun as he rides into town on big red Engine 31 fire truck. The fire fighters, not reindeer, will give Santa a ride to the Blue and Red Santa event held at the Delta County Civic Center.

This is where the festivities turn into humor as for a price of a new, unwrapped toy citizens are entertained by the series of competitive events between local law enforcement versus fire fighters. The toys will be dispersed to local children of Delta County through the Child Protective Service Angel Tree program.

Santa will also have a listening ear for any children who would like to whisper their Christmas wishes and pause for a free photo. Photos will be found on the Cooper Review Facebook page following the event.

The Chamber is currently seeking a sponsor for this special winter event. For more information please call the Chamber office at 903-395-4314 or Cooper Review 903-395-2175.
