Woman Mauled by Dog Pack in Lamar County

A Lamar County woman is in the hospital in Plano after officials say she was mauled by a pack of dogs in Deport this weekend. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office says 74-year-old Jackie Brooks was visiting her sister and went for a walk near County Road 16080 on Saturday morning.

A pack of dogs owned by a neighbor reportedly approached her and attacked. A passing driver found Brooks lying in a ditch.

The Paris News reported that Brooks had severe wounds on her legs, back, and chest. TV station K12 reported that the dogs were possibly Cambodian razorbacks. According to the website DogBreeds.com the breed is usually friendly with family but can be extremely territorial.

The dogs were quarantined at the Paris Animal Shelter. Brooks is said to be in serious but stable condition.
