Sulphur Springs Inks Deal to Get Former Mining Site

On Tuesday the Sulphur Springs City Council unanimously agreed to a development deal with Luminant Mining Co. that would transfer ownership of a 4,000-acre former mining site to the city.

As part of the deal, Luminant will clean up the site before the transfer is official. City officials say that should be between 12 and 18 months. Once the city gets the property, it is expected to tear down an overpass on FM-1870 and restore the route to its original course. The city, however, will give up some water rights to the property.
