911 Service May be Intermittent in NE Texas

CenturyLink Map
An outage map showing where 911 went down in the U.S.

A large-scale 911 Outage in the countryThursday and Friday affected Northeast Texas. Residents in several cities and counties in the region and in several states had trouble dialing 911 since Thursday. And while service is said to be back up in Northeast Texas, dialing 911 might continue to be spotty. Text to 911, however should work.

According to CenturyLink, the Louisiana-based telecommunications company that oversees much of the nation's 911 service, the system went down around noon Thursday, affecting such far-apart states as Washington and Massachusetts. But whole states did not appear to be affected.

In Northeast Texas, service went down in Collin, Hunt, Kaufman, and Rockwall counties. Dialing 911 should work, but if you have an emergency and can’t get through to 911 by calling, text to 911 or dial local police or your county sheriff.

  • Collin County: (972) 547-5350
  • Hunt County: (903) 453-6838
  • Kaufman County: (972) 932-4337
  • Rockwall County: (972) 204-7001

CenturyLink did not say what caused the outage.
