Commerce Independent School District Police took a Commerce High School student into custody on Friday, Feb. 22, following a possible bomb threat hoax.
In a statement, Commerce ISD Police described an unnamed male student at the high school possessing an "undetermined electronic device" connected by wires to a battery and a plastic jar containing coins and dollar bills.
Police say that the student in question was taken into custody due to "statements made by the student on the bus that were heard by two other students," which were reported to school staff, who then alerted Commerce ISD Police.
Commerce ISD staff examined the student's contraption and "determined it was not a danger to anyone," the statement said. No students or staff were in any danger and no further information about the incident will be released, the statement said.
