Dr. Kent Montgomery, head of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Texas A&M-Commerce, says the Aquarid meteor shower is Sunday night into Monday morning (July 28-29), with the peak viewing around 3 a.m. Monday. About 20 meteors per hour will be viewable in the south sky. We also look back to the 50th anniversary of the moon landing last Saturday, July 20; discuss the new PBS series "Ancient Skies;" and consider the mammoth Thirty-Meter Telescope being built at the University of Hawaii.
