Emory Man Dies In Head-On Crash

An Emory man died after his pickup truck struck an 18-wheeler head-on Monday morning in Rains County, a Texas Department of Public Safety release said.

Jacob Casson Cooper, 20, of Emory was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 8 a.m. on Texas State Hwy. 19, about 1.8 miles south of Emory, officials said.

A DPS preliminary report indicates that Cooper, driving a 2008 Chevrolet 1500, was headed south on SH 19, while a the driver of a 2018 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling north. Investigators said Cooper traveled into the northbound lane and struck the Peterbilt head-on.

The driver of the Peterbilt was identified as Jose Manuel Rico, 60, of Scurry.

The crash remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
