- The man accused of murdering Ladonia resident J.C. Campbell last year has been arrested in Louisiana. KTEN-TV reports Justin Cuba, age 34, was arrested Thursday in Baton Rouge by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. Cuba had been on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list since the killing of Campbell at the Texoma Housing Authority apartments in Ladonia in August 2021. Cuba is accused of shooting Campbell to death in front of witnesses. Cuba is in custody in Baton Rouge. Details about his capture have not been released. Louisiana authorities have charged Cuba with the murder of a 32-year-old Baton Rouge woman last month. A woman alleged to have been an accomplice in the Ladonia murder, Carmen Taylor Cuba, had also been on the run. She turned herself in to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office in April.
- Statewide elections in Texas will be held tomorrow. Voters will decide on two proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution, both related to property taxes. Several school districts around the region, including Greenville and Bonham, will have bond proposals on local ballots.
- In Greenville, the Herald Banner reports a juvenile suspect is in custody following yesterday’s bomb scare that caused Greenville High School to be evacuated Thursday morning. Police and other first responders later found out that a suspicious device found in a bathroom that prompted the evacuation was not dangerous. Greenville High School remains closed today.
