May 10 Morning Newscast: A&M-Commerce softball, after winning conference Sunday, to host NCAA Regionals

The Lions, champions of this year's Lone Star Conference tournament, will play St. Mary's at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cain Family Softball Complex.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce softball team will be hosting some NCAA tournament games this weekend. After winning the Lone Star Conference tournament on Sunday, the Lions some supporters gathered in the university’s student center yesterday morning to watch the live tournament selection show on the NCAA’s website.

Players reacting after learning that this week’s games will be home games. The Lions will be playing St. Mary's this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Cain Family Softball Complex. Texas A&M-Kingsville and Oklahoma Christian will also be in Commerce this week. The winner of this week’s regional round advance to super regionals next week at a site to be determined. If the Lions win out of this group of four, there’s a chance A&M-Commerce could host again next week. On Sunday, the Lions beat A&M-Kingsville for the young softball program's first ever LSC Tournament championship. The Lions have qualified for the NCAA Regional tournament for the fourth consecutive time and fifth overall. They previously made the postseason in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2021. Heading into Thursday's opening games, the Lions are 42-13 on the season, matching the most wins in program history.
