  • In Hunt County, local voters will have a chance to weigh in on a county-wide property tax freeze for seniors and people with disabilities. The Greenville Herald banner reports this measure was added to ballots for the Nov. 8 general election at yesterday’s meeting of the Hunt County Commissioners Court. Many local taxing entities in Hunt County already have such a freeze in place, but this move would make the freeze in effect for all Hunt County property taxes.
  • In Hopkins County, the Texas Department of Transportation has announced plans intended to improve the safety of Highway 11 in Como. The Sulphur Springs News-Telegram says TxDOT intends to install signage, flashing beacons, rumble strips, and an all-way stop on Highway 11 in Como. At this week’s meeting of the Hopkins County Commissioners Court, Como residents expressed hope that the project would be completed as quickly as possible. The News-Telegram reports Highway 11 in Como has been the site of several accidents, including fatal accidents.
  • In sports, the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions softball team enters tomorrow’s NCAA Division II regional tournament ranked no. 14 nationally. The Lone Star Conference is a softball powerhouse once again this year, with three teams currently in the national top 10. UT Tyler is ranked number one, Texas A&M-Kingsville is ranked second and Angelo State is number 7 nationally. A&M-Commerce defeated all three of those teams on its way to the Lone Star Conference tournament championship last week. The Lions will host St. Mary’s at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
