Tire and wheel manufacturer announces plans for Paris facility

friday morning newscast graphic

The Paris Economic Development Corporation expects the operation to provide about 40 jobs over the next five years.

  • In Lamar County, the Paris Economic Development Corporation has announced that a tire and wheel manufacturer has plans to build a production facility at the city’s Northwest Industrial Park. The Paris News reports Lionshead Speciality Tire & Wheel plans to build a $20 million facility on a 20-acre site. The company expects to bring about 40 new jobs to the area over the next five years. Lionshead has headquarters in Goshen, Indiana, with production facilities in six states.
  • In South Texas, families of victims of the Uvalde shootings are headed to the Rio Grande valley today. They’ll join Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke for a press conference where they’ll call on Governor Greg Abbott to raise the minimum age for buying assault rifles from 18. TPR’s Gaige Davila reports.
The event is set for just hours before O’Rourke and the incumbent Republican governor are set to meet on stage for a debate. The O’Rourke campaign said the group will travel to Edinburg via bus. Families and supporters of Robb Elementary school shooting victims also traveled to the state capitol in Austin recently, demanding Abbott change to law so people under 21 can’t buy assault rifles. O’Rourke and Abbott’s debate will be televised live Friday night from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg. Currently, it’s the lone debate scheduled between the two candidates before Election Day in November. I’m Gaige Davila in Port Isabel.
