  • The attorney for the man accused of killing a Texas A&M University-Commerce student and her sister in 2020 has asked for evidence at his upcoming murder trial to be thrown out. Jaques Dshawn Smith is charged with homicide in connection with the deaths of Abbaney Matts and her sister Deja. The sisters were shot to death in Deja’s dorm room on campus on Feb. 4, 2020. A hearing on the motion has been scheduled for today in the 196th District Court in Greenville. Smith’s trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 20.
