Severe storms expected in Northeast Texas on Thursday evening

Hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are all possible, as a cold front is forecast to enter the region after dark.

Today across Northeast Texas, intermittent showers and thunderstorms are expected all day long with afternoon highs in the mid 70s. Severe weather is forecast in Northeast Texas tonight. A line of storms, some of them severe, is expected to move into Northeast Texas from the west after sundown. Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes are all possible. Please do keep it tuned to 88.9 KETR this evening and tonight – we’ll be providing live updates regarding severe weather in Northeast Texas. And, today’s a good day to make sure you have a portable radio with working batteries – in the event of widespread wind damage, the region could experience outages in electrical, internet, and cell phone service.

Also, in Greenville Herald Banner reminded us in yesterday’s edition that the City of Greenville no longer uses tornado sirens as part of its warning system. Greenville operates a free automatic telephone notification system to provide severe weather alerts. The system is called CodeRED, and more information is available at the City of Greenville website, or by calling the Greenville city manager’s office, or by asking staff at the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville, which is open from noon until 8 p.m. today.

After the storms move through Northeast Texas tonight, cooler air behind the front, with early morning lows tomorrow in the mid 40s. During the day on Friday, sunny and breezy, with afternoon highs near 60.
