friday morning newscast graphic

An Austin-based company plans to build a 4,500-acre electrical generation plant in western Lamar County.

  • This week, Lamar County commissioners approved a step in the process of building three solar farms in western Lamar County. The Paris News reports no one from the public offered comment during the regular meeting of the commissioners court, which designated three re-investment zones for the areas in question. That designation is required for tax abatement purposes. Austin-based Solar Proponent plans to build in the far western part of Lamar County. The 4,500-acre site is near Highway 82 and lies partially in county precincts 2 and 3.
  • Also in Lamar County, the Paris News reports a Canadian company has purchased the former Delco trailer manufacturing facility near Sumner. Universal Fabricating of Kingsville, Ontario, says it plans to build a shop that would employ about a hundred people in professional-level jobs. The Paris News also reports that the facility would be the first foreign-owned manufacturing plant in Lamar County. Universal Fabricating builds materials for greenhouses, as well as the transportation and logistics industries.
