Texas A&M University-Commerce has named a new Director of Athletics. Today, the university announced the hiring of Jim Curry, who’ll move into the job next month. Curry comes to A&M-Commerce from Florida State University, where he has served as senior associate athletics director since 2016. Florida State is one of the top collegiate athletics programs in the United States and is a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Curry’s hiring marks another milestone in a transitional time in Lion Athletics. Currently, Eric Coleman is serving as interim director of athletics for A&M-Commerce. Coleman has led the Lions through the university’s first academic year as a member of NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference. Coleman has held the position since former Lion AD Tim McMurray stepped down in May of last year. McMurray is now working for Game One, a sports clothing and equipment company. McMurray had held the job since 2015. He replaced Ryan Ivey, who is now the director of athletics at Stephen F. Austin University. New Lions AD Jim Curry is scheduled to begin work on May 1st.
