Communities across KETR’s service area are observing Memorial Day with ceremonies and tributes to those who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military.
Saturday
The Dallas-based veterans' charity Carry The Load presents it annual Memorial Day walk on Saturday. This free event will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Greenville Farmers Market, located at 2500 Bois D'Arc Street in Greenville.
Monday
The Bonham Area Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Memorial Day Walk of Honor on Monday. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. at the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center, located at 1201 East 9th Street in Bonham.
In Paris, the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial Museum will be hosting a Memorial Day program at the Love Civic Center. The event will feature a speech by Retired Marine Corp Colonel, Tom Connally, followed by a wreath laying ceremony at the Veterans Memorial. The program will start at 10 a.m. at the Love Civic Center, located at 2025 South Collegiate Drive in Paris.
Hopkins County Marine Corps League Det. 1357 will hold a Memorial Day service in Sulphur Springs. The service will begin at 11 a.m. on Memorial Day, at Celebration Square in downtown Sulphur Springs.
Monday evening, the Greenville Flags Project will host its annual Memorial Day of Remembrance Ceremony. The ceremony will feature remarks from Tim and Aletha Kruse, the founders of the Greenville Flag Project; and a speech by Congressman Keith Self, who represents Texas’ 3rd Congressional District. The event will also include a reading of the 267 names of Hunt County locals who lost their lives in combat during the period of World War I through the Vietnam War.
The Memorial Day of Remembrance Ceremony will start at 7 p.m. at the Audie Murphy Memorial Bridge, which can be found near 2810 Johnson Street in downtown Greenville.
