Buffalo Soldiers Visit Cooper Lake State Park Friday And Saturday

Steve Killian, superintendent of Cooper Lake State Park, says the Buffalo Soldiers, representing the African-American U.S. Army unit of the 19th century, will give presentations at the South Sulphur Unit of the park on Friday and Saturday (April 29-30).

The Buffalo Soldiers are presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife and make appearances at many state parks. The appearances Friday will be for groups of school children (and teachers are asked to make reservations), and the appearances from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday will be for the general public.

John Mark Dempsey is the host of the public interest program The Blacklands Café from KETR News. Dempsey is also the play-by-play announcer for Commerce Tigers Football on 88.9 FM and on ketr.org.
