Seven employees of the Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bonham have been confirmed as having COVID-19.

County Medical Authority Dr. J.E. Froelich told Sherman-based KXII-TV that all seven cases were reported to be in the same area of the VA complex. Hospital staff have identified other workers the seven had likely come in contact with, Froelich said. Several employees have been tested and sent home to quarantine, he said.

As of 1 p.m. on April 22, no nursing home residents had tested positive and none of the regular staff assigned to the residential area of the medical center had tested positive.

The seven new cases announced on April 22 brough the total of Fannin County cases to 18.
