Local police force receives high honor

PARIS - The Paris Police Department has earned the distinction of “Recognized Law Enforcement Agency” by the Texas Police Chiefs Association.

Paris becomes only the 63rd agency to receive the recognition from the program, which began in 2006.

A police department is graded on compliance with over 160 best business practices for Texas law enforcement, which cover aspects including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management along with patrol and investigative operations. To be recognized, the Paris Police Department began a voluntary self-review of the agency’s policies , procedures, facilities and operations in 2011.

The presentation of the award will take place at Paris City Hall on May 14th. The department will also be recognized at the Texas Police Chiefs Association annual conference in April.
