Prison sentence issued for jail escapee

BONHAM - Jimmy Lee Brock has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars after pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including escape, just days after the Fannin County inmate was captured and returned to custody.

In a statement issued Thursday, District Attorney Richard Glaser noted Brock was first arrested after breaking the neck of his girlfriend’s cat last November. He was scheduled for trial March 26.

But during a work detail near Honey Grove last month, Brock stole a county employee’s vehicle, fled to a wooded area and abandoned the vehicle. According to the DA’s office, he remained in the Fannin County area for three days, struggling to survive on a lack of food and exposure to overnight conditions. That led to Brock’s break-in of the Precinct 3 Barn last Friday, where he stole a county pick-up truck and even drove to Galveston in a failed attempt to pawn off tools inside the vehicle.

When he returned to Bonham to visit his girlfriend, he was arrested without incident at her work.
