Slideshow: Sulphur Springs Independence Celebration

The Sulphur Springs Symphony League produced the 27th Annual Independence Day Celebration Concert on Celebration Plaza last Saturday. The concert was conducted by Dr. Douglas Bakenhus.

Major supporters of the event were Alliance Bank, Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, GSC Enterprises/Grocery Supply Company, and the Symphony League Members. This year’s event was performed in memory of the late Sulphur Springs High School Band Director Charles McCauley. He brought passion for music to this community for many years. His legacy will continue to bring music to this community through every student whose life he touched.

The welcome was provided by Tom Sellers, President of Alliance Bank. The invocation was given by Christus Mother Frances Hospital CEO Paul Harvey. Sharla Campbell opened the ceremony as the President of the Sulphur Springs Symphony League. Pledge to the Flag was led by former Mayor Emily Glass, and the posting of colors was performed by the Hopkins County Military Coalition.

The evening’s guest conductor was Dale Owens. The concert included performances by the Northeast Texas Choral Society’s Men’s Chorus.

Honorary fireworks detonator was Andrew Campbell. It was followed by a firework spectacular, a breveted version due to electrical malfunction.

The League provides this free concert and show for the public each year on the Plaza in Sulphur Springs.
