Hunt County Master Gardener Wayne Bowman says the mean last frost or freeze date in the county is March 20, although it is certainly possible that frost or even a freeze may happen after that date.

The mean last freeze date surrounding counties may be a good deal later. For example, Fannin County the mean date of the last frost is March 30 and in Collin County it's April 1. Wayne says extended forecasts he's seen are favorable for there not being another frost or freeze in Hunt County, but each gardener has to use his or her judgement. Wayne says frost cloths, or even sheets and towels, will protect plants from frost.
