Hunt Regional Observes May As 'Stroke Awareness Month'

UFhealth.org

Frances Dalbey, Hunt Regional Healthcare outreach specialist, says May is Stroke Awareness Month. Despite advances in research and clinical care, stroke continues to be the fifth leading cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the United States, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stoke.

Frances discusses the "FAST" system of identifying the effects of a stroke: "face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty and time to call 911." Frances says the Hunt Regional Medical Center is seeking certification as a Primary Stroke Center.
