Donna Tavener, longtime East Texas State women's sports coach and Northeast Texas educator, has died.

Northeast Texas educator and longtime East Texas State University women's sports coach Donna Tavener, has died. NAIA Coach of the Year in 1983, Tavener coached Lions volleyball and tennis 1977-83. Tavener later pursued a successful career as an educator in the Greenville and Commerce schools and at Texas A&M University-Commerce. First United Methodist Church of Commerce will hold a memorial service for Tavener at 2 p.m. Sun. Oct. 17.
Lamar County officials will dedicate a Texas State Historical Marker at the site of Jefferies Wagon Yard in downtown Paris on Sat. Oct. 23, during the city's Pumpkin Festival.
Hunt County sheriff's deputies recovered a backhoe reported stolen from Josephine and arrested a suspect in the theft.
