Texas A&M University-Commerce junior center Christian Macauley has been named the Lone Star Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by league officials. It marks the first weekly honor for Macauley and the first for the Lion men's basketball team during the 2013-14 season.

Macauley had a strong weekend for A&M-Commerce, helping the Lions to victories over Southern Arkansas and Henderson State. Against the Muleriders, Macauley posted his second career double-double, recording 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, including six defensive, with a block and a steal as A&M-Commerce routed Southern Arkansas 96-78. The following night against the Reddies, Macauley notched a career-best six blocks, one shy of the program's single-game record, with five rebounds, five points and a steal as the Lions rallied for a 75-74 victory.

Through the first eight games of the season, Macauley is averaging 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, having logged an identical 70 of each. The Washington, D.C. native has also tallied 20 blocks on the year as his 2.5 blocks per game leads the Lone Star Conference and ranks among the top-25 nationally.

A&M-Commerce has roared out to a blistering start in 2013-14 as the Lions sit at 8-0 for the first time since the 1953-54 season when the Lions advanced all the way to the NAIA quarterfinals. The start has matched the second-best season opening tilt in program history, sitting two games shy of the 10-0 start put together by the 1947-48 team en route to an appearance in the NIB District Playoffs.

With the LSC weekly honor, A&M-Commerce continues to be one of the top all-around programs in the conference through the 2013-14 athletic season. The Lions have now racked up 25 Player of the Week honors since Sep. 1. Eight of the nine A&M-Commerce sports that have begun competition have notched at least one LSC Player of the Week.

Macauley and the rest of the Lions try to keep their unbeaten streak intact with a pair of road games in the DFW Metroplex this week. A&M-Commerce travels to Cedar Hill for a meeting with Northwood on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The Lions then head to Dallas to complete the home-and-home series against Dallas Baptist on Friday, Dec. 6. Tip-off against both the Knights and Patriots is set for 7 p.m.
