Residents to learn more about new wastewater plant

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – Greenville residents should soon learn more about the new wastewater treatment plant.

The City Council has scheduled a public hearing for March 10 that will discuss potential environmental impacts of the project, along with alternatives, if any. The planning stage for upgrading and replacing the current wastewater plant has been underway for about a year and the entire project is expected to be complete in 2011.

The current facility requires work because of the expected future growth of Greenville, plus to permanently correct treatment problems. One year ago, the Council approved the sale of $20 million in bonds to pay for the upgrade. Paying off the bonds is not expected to require an increase in water and sewer rates for local residents.
