Goodall to be honored at Mount Moriah Church

Commerce – The Commerce community this weekend will remember the late Charles "Doc" Goodall, who passed away June 21. He was 77.
Goodall was the first African American assistant football coach at East Texas State University, now A&M-Commerce, in the 1970's and considered "The Father of Intramural Sports."
The memorial celebration is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, at 1202 Champion Lane in Commerce.
Goodall received a Masters in Education at East Texas State in 1971, where he remained to teach physical education classes. He also was a part of the Ernest Hawkins' 1972 NAIA championship football team as a defensive coach.
