Patton in North Africa
Patton in North Africa
The World War II History Roundtable Quarterly Program will be held October 24 in Greenville. The subject is General George Patton as presented by author Stephen L. Moore in his book Patton's Payback. It is about the 1943 North African Battle of El Guettar and Patton's subsequent rise to glory. Called upon to replace an inept US Army II Corps commander, Patton arrived on the scene full of energy and unorthodox methods to motivate his troops. This is the fifth program sponsored by the Roundtable. Previously the studies have been on Hitler’s health problems, the generals hired by George Marshall, and the land attack through Italy by the 36th division, the war viewed by a B-17 tailgunner, and Iwo Jima's attack in the Pacific.
The program will be at 7 p.m. October 24 at the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum in Greenville. Author of a dozen military books, Moore will be available for questions afterwards.
Members and public are invited.
