Blue and Gold Wednesdays are a time for everyone to show their school pride and wear their blue and gold, which are the school’s colors.

Students, faculty, and staff members were in high spirits as the Sam Rayburn Student Center was the place to be. People waited in long lines to get free snow cones to beat the heat and get new stuffed Lions (a replica of the school’s mascot). Many people also enjoyed free Segway rides and got to experience the brand new dance team.

Junior Tealah Wooten, member of the dance team says, “When I was a freshman here I’d actually got a phone call about this, and all we needed was a coach and representation, and we got it!”  The dance team made their public debut on ‘The Block’ alongside the cheer squad, the band, and the new Lucky the Lion mascot. “We are performing with our new mascot, Lucky the Lion,” added Wooten.

Lucky has been one of the most recognizable faces on the A&M-Commerce campus for years now, but he decided to get in shape and show his new physique along with a new hair style.

Dr. Dan Jones, university president, even made an appearance and gave a few words of excitement and motivation to some of the student body. He enjoyed the atmosphere and wished the students good luck in the young fall 2012 semester.

He added, “Tuesday, we registered the 12,000th studentfor the first time in A&M-Commerce history.” Dr. Jones also shared with KETR the many improvements made on campus. “We have had crews on campus this summer working on the pedestrian walking mall which is now finished, and we just broke ground on a 50,000 square foot dorm.”

The fall 2012 semester has started off with a big bang, and students are having a good time. Enrollment is up now three years in a row.
