New coach Brad Pierson hopes to still be playing on Thanksgiving Day.

The Boles High School Hornets managed to win half of their games this past season, and Pierson hopes he can improve on that number. Pierson comes to Quinlan from North Dallas and said he was looking for a smaller school away from the big city. Pierson said he's found the perfect match at Boles.

"We've got a great senior and junior class, and fantastic coaching already in place,” Boles said.

The 2012 Hornets put a heavy emphasis on the run, and fans can expect much of the same from this season’s team with returning rushers Devan Harris, Cameron Walker and Ross Bostick. Harris is a running back and defensive back with over 800 yards rushing last year and also served as the Hornets’ kicker, hitting 21 of his 26 PAT attempts.

Walker also helps the Hornets with their ground game, snatching almost 800 yards in just 106 attempts. He, along with Harris and Bostick, helped lead Boles to an impressive 3050 yards rushing. Walker is also excellent on the other side of the ball, putting up 76 tackles, including 11 for a loss of yards.

Bostick totaled over 300 yards on the ground, 69 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

“I expect big things from this team," Pierson said. "My goals are to make the playoffs, and it’s always been my lifelong goal to still playing during the Thanksgiving break."

Pierson does face a few challenges on the way to completing his list. He lost a 600-plus-yard rusher in Hunter Jordan, and has just four games at home this season. The true test of 2013 will come in the final two weeks, when the Hornets face area finalist Wolfe City and regional semi-finalist Honey Grove in games that could determine the district championship.
