This week on Movie Picks with Alice Reese, Alice reviews A Walk in the Woods, Grandma, and Phoenix.
A Walk in the Woods is based on a book by Bill Bryson that follows two men on their trek across the Appalachian Trail. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte star with Emma Thompson, Mary Steenburgen, and Kristen Schaal throwing in great performances. Alice wasn't a huge fan of Nolte in the movie but did recommend the movie based on cinematography and the wonder of Robert Redford.
Grandma is Lily Tomlin's first starring movie role in 27 years. Alice really enjoyed this movie. It had heart, humor, and depth. It's from the same guys that brought you American Pie and About a Boy. Also, the resurgence of Sam Elliott seems to be happening in this movie as well as several others this year.
Phoenix is a German art-house film that Alice swears is the best movie of the summer. Unfortunately you're going to have to find an indie movie theater to watch this movie at, because it's most likely not making it to wide-release. Alice says if you have to wait for it to come out on DVD, it's definitely worth it.
