This week on Movie Picks with Alice Reese, Alice reviews Freeheld, 99 Homes, and He Named Me Malala.
Freeheld stars Julianne Moore and Ellen Page. While Alice wasn't as impressed with Page's performance, she thinks Moore might be receiving another golden statue this year. This movie follows the true story of Laurel Hester, who was fighting to get her domestic partner rights to her pension after her impending death from cancer. Overall Alice really enjoyed this movie, and thought it was very compelling and touching.
99 Homes stars Andrew Garfield as Dennis Nash, a devoted father who is fighting to get his home back after his family's eviction by working for the man who took it away from them. Michael Shannon steps into the role of bad guy perfectly as Rick Carver, a conniving and greedy real estate broker. Alice thought both of the lead males performances were wonderful, and she recommends this well done movie.
He Named Me Malala is the latest from documentarian Davis Guggenheim, and it follows the life of Malala Yousafzai, a teenage female activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner, as she moves away from her home in Pakistan and travels the world speaking to girls about education and their rights. Alice recommends this movie about a brave young girl who survived being gunned down by the Taliban.
