Punishment hearing in murder case enters final day

GREENVILLE - Sentencing is expected to conclude Wednesday for Randall Douglas Smith, following his confession Monday to the 2009 murder of a fellow Caddo Mills resident.

A forensic pathologist testified Tuesday that Smith shot Gregory Poteet four times in the back following a night of heavy drinking. Poteet was found dead inside a truck along CR 2632. Two of the shots, one of which entered Poteet’s skull, were fired at point-blank range.

Smith faces up to life in prison.
