Council approves SH 24 funding

COOPER - The Cooper City Council this week unanimously approved to provide funding for the city’s portion of the State Highway 24 widening.

Delbert Horton, Chairman of SuRRMA (Sulphur River Regional Mobility Authority), explained how the expansion is being funded and asked the Council to commit to approximately $1000 per month for 20 years.

Actual payments to be paid in two payments each year by the City won’t begin until February, 2014 or may begin as late as February, 2015. The nearly 10 mile expansion project from two to four lanes is projected for completion in August, 2015. The widening runs from the Hunt/Delta County line to just south of the Cooper city limits.

In other news, the Council tabled action to consider the consolidation of the Delta County Appraisal District with Hunt County until a revised agreement can be presented.

The City of Cooper is asking you to contact them in the event of a water outage or to report a water main leak at (903) 395-2779.
