SULPHUR SPRINGS - A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for vandalism to the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial.
The complex was unveiled ahead of the July 4 holiday in downtown Sulphur Springs. City Manager Marc Maxwell tells the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram that the words “juggalo homies” were scratched into part of the limestone.
“This is quarried limestone. It isn't going to be cheap [to replace],” Maxwell said.
He believes the words are reference to a certain band.
HCVM Member Don Roundtree told the paper:
“With the amount of effort that we've put into this [memorial], it is really an insult to us and is an insult to our entire community."
Anyone with information about the crime is encouraged to call Hopkins County Crimestoppers at 903-885-2020 or the Sulphur Springs Police Department at 903-885-7602.
The non-profit Hopkins County Veterans Memorial is dedicated to all veterans who have lived in, or are buried in Hopkins County. The next deadline to purchase and have a brick engraved for the facility is September 1.
