Commerce Hospital Lockdown Suspect Arrested

COMMERCE - Police say it was a woman, not a man, who caused an October 4 lockdown at Hunt Regional Hospital, a neighboring nursing home and most of the school district.

32-year-old Lisa Fowler of Campbell was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with deadly conduct. She has since posted a $5,000 bond pending a trial.

“Initially it was thought that the suspect was a male however it was determined that Ms. Fowler could have been mistaken for a man due to her slender build, facial features and her short hair which is usually spiked,” according to a Commerce Police Department statement.

Authorities were informed of a man with a gun outside the hospital just before noon Thursday, Oct. 4. A hospital employee noticed the gun sitting next to the person on a bench when he walked by, which prompted the facility lockdown. The witness told police the suspected man had been sitting in a non threatening manner.

Initially described as a white male in his 20's with dark spiked hair, Commerce Police were unable to locate the suspect upon arrival. Subsequent patrols throughout the area were also unsuccessful.
